Gillingham Museum and Local History Society is seeking your views this Autumn,
as it invites residents and community groups to help to shape the future of the
organisation.
Come and share your thoughts on the future of heritage in Gillingham and the
surrounding villages on the following dates:
Saturday 28 th September, 11:00am – 1:00pm, Outside the Co-op in Lodbourne
Saturday 5 th October, 11:00am – 1:00pm, Gillingham Library
If you are unable to attend these events, you can also share your thoughts by
completing an online questionnaire. (see below)
The outcome of these consultation events will help the Local History Society better
understand how the community engages with the Museum and its historic collections,
and what it would like to see from the organisation in the future. They are being
delivered by consultant Helen Horler of Culture Force, who has been commissioned to
undertake a study on behalf of the Museum.
Visitors to the event at Gillingham Library on 5th October can also enjoy a brand-new
display of Carnival themed material in the Museum (located next door to the library),
which will share unseen collections covering over a century of the event’s history in the
town.
This work has been made possible by a grant awarded by Museum Development South
West with thanks to support from Arts Council England and the Art Fund. This exciting
project will help to build the resilience of the organisation, improving its identity and
growing its connection with the community of North Dorset.
