The Boy Down The Lane
The Autobiography of Hubert (Bert) Beavis
Known as Bert to his friends and colleagues.
Raised in the Dorset Purbeck village of Kingston, he saw service with the Royal Navy in WW2, mainly in Torpedo boats, and later witnessed the devastation at Hiroshima.
He then spent 29 years as a rural constable with the Dorset Police, in Cranborne, Gillingham
, and Shaftesbury etc when police had a freer hand to deal with trouble.
Four years working for the RNLI followed; and then a further 10 years as Court Usher at Wareham.
He retired to Swanage and spent much time at Chapman’s Pool. Bert is also a very talented artist.
A busy life, well worth reading.
