From Rags to Riches - The Peruvian Connection

When Thomas Shute walked out from home one morning, aged 14, never to return, with no formal education, no contacts, and no prospects, he was doing something not just of dramatic significance to his own personal life, but also, in the wider scheme of things, very typical of the age in which he lived.

Michael Davis MBE, will relate the story of his ancestor, born on a farm at Stour Provost in 1835, who became one of the leading ship owners of the age.

This story is not just a study of family history. It has a wider historical significance, being a case study reflecting the vast changes in our social and economic circumstances over the past 250 years which, for better or worse, has provided Michael Davis with much food for thought.
