From powder to piracy

The Bankes family have lived in Dorset at Corfe Castle and Kingston Lacy since the 17th century, actively participating in 350 years of eventful history.

Work on the Bankes Archive Project is beginning to reveal a treasure trove of fascinating material. Often thought-provoking, frequently intriguing, sometimes curious and occasionally sad: the stories are rich and varied.

Judith Teasdale (former Bankes Archive Project & Engagement Officer) will tell us about some of the extraordinary documents and colourful stories that have been discovered so far, while cataloguing and conserving the contents of 800 boxes of archive material.
